Quick answer

The top result uses superscript letters (ᵗⁱⁿʸ). Below it, Small caps gives short capitals (ᴛɪɴʏ) and Subscript lowers the letters Unicode supports (ₜᵢₙ), leaving the rest as they are.

How tiny text is made

Tiny text uses modifier letters: small raised letters that linguists use to mark sounds such as aspiration (tʰ). They are scattered across Spacing Modifier Letters, Phonetic Extensions and Superscripts and Subscripts, which is why no single font was designed around them and why some look bolder than others.

The lowercase set is almost complete. The last gap, q, was filled only in 2021, when Unicode 14 added 𐞥 MODIFIER LETTER SMALL Q (U+107A5). Many phones do not have a font for it yet, so it may show as a box; if it does, rephrase or accept a normal q. Capitals are patchier: ᴬᴮᴰᴱᴳᴴᴵᴶᴷᴸᴹᴺᴼᴾᴿᵀᵁⱽᵂ exist, but C, F, S, X, Y and Z borrow the lowercase forms and there is no superscript capital Q at all.

Tiny numbers and maths

Superscript digits ⁰¹²³⁴⁵⁶⁷⁸⁹ and the signs ⁺ ⁻ ⁼ ⁽ ⁾ are fully supported, so the generator is also handy for exponents like x² or 10⁻³. The ², ³ and ¹ characters are especially safe because they date back to Latin-1. If you only need an exponent, see the superscript and subscript collection or the squared symbol page.

Good uses and bad uses

Tiny text works well for a joke aside (ᶦ ᵗʰᶦⁿᵏ), a small signature, a footnote marker or a subtle tag in a bio. It is a poor choice for anything people must read, because it is hard to see on phones and screen readers announce it letter by letter as “modifier letter small t”. For lowered chemistry-style text such as H₂O, use the subscript generator, which explains why only some letters can go below the line.

Frequently asked questions

How do I type small text?

Type normally in the box above and copy the tiny (superscript) result. It is made of small Unicode letters, so it stays small wherever you paste it.

Why is the letter q missing or a box in tiny text?

Superscript q (𐞥) was added only in Unicode 14 (2021), so many devices still lack a font for it.

Can I make capital letters tiny?

Partly. Most capitals have superscript forms, but C, F, S, X, Y and Z use lowercase shapes and Q has no superscript at all.

Is tiny text the same as superscript in Word?

No. Word’s superscript (Ctrl + Shift + =) formats normal letters. Tiny text is made of separate characters, so it keeps its size in apps without formatting.
