For chat, Discordโs built-in Markdown is usually better than Unicode fonts, because the text stays searchable and screen readers read it normally:

Where fancy fonts are the only option
Names cannot be formatted with Markdown, so Unicode styles are how people get a ๐ฒ๐๐๐๐๐ display name, a ๊ฑแดแดสส แดแดแด๊ฑ server nickname or a ๐ ฑ๐ พ๐ ป๐ ณ role name. Channel names convert spaces to hyphens and force lowercase for plain letters, but styled characters keep their look, which is why many servers decorate channels with symbols like ใป and โ from text dividers.
Server etiquette
Moderators often need to mention or search for members. A name made entirely of fancy letters cannot be typed with @ easily, and some servers have rules or bots that reset โunmentionableโ nicknames. A good pattern is a plain word with styled decoration, for example ๊งNova๊ง from the nickname generator. Zalgo text is frequently banned because it spills over other messages.
