What does ✓ mean?
A check mark, called a tick in British English, means yes, done, correct or selected. It appears in to-do lists, forms, marking schemes and interface labels. Its opposite is a cross such as ✗ or ✘.
Meanings are not universal. In Finland and Sweden a tick can mark an incorrect answer on school work, and in Japan correct answers are traditionally circled (○) while ✓ can mean a mistake. For international audiences, pair the mark with a word (“✓ Included”).
Common uses
- To-do and packing lists: ✓ Passport
- Feature comparison tables: Pro ✓, Free ✗
- Marking correct answers and approvals
