What does ₪ mean?
₪ is the sign of the Israeli new shekel (ISO code ILS), the currency of Israel since 1985. It combines the first Hebrew letters of the words shekel (ש) and ḥadash, “new” (ח). Its official Unicode name spells it NEW SHEQEL SIGN.
In Hebrew the sign usually comes after the number: 100 ₪. English-language Israeli sites often write ₪100 or ILS 100 instead. Hebrew keyboard layouts include the sign; on other layouts, type 20AA then Alt + X in Word.
