What does ♁ mean?
♁ is one of two symbols for Earth. It is a circle topped with a cross, the shape of the globus cruciger, the orb carried by monarchs. Older astronomy books use it, and it is still seen in astrology and in the symbol sets of planet charts.
Modern astronomers usually prefer ⊕, a circle divided by a cross, representing the globe and its four quarters. You will see it in subscripts such as M⊕ (one Earth mass) and R⊕ (Earth’s radius), which are common when describing exoplanets. Strictly, ⊕ in Unicode is the maths operator CIRCLED PLUS, but it is the character people use for this purpose.
