What does ℵ mean?
ℵ measures the size of infinite sets. Georg Cantor, who proved that some infinities are larger than others, chose the first letter of the Hebrew alphabet for them. ℵ₀ (aleph-null) is the size of the natural numbers, the smallest infinity, and the continuum hypothesis asks whether any size lies between ℵ₀ and the size of ℝ. Unicode keeps the mathematical ℵ separate from the Hebrew letter א, which is written right to left in Hebrew text.
