Typing € on Google Gboard

Long-pressing that key opens a quick-selection palette containing the euro (€), British pound (£), yen (¥), cent (¢), and other currencies. Samsung Galaxy smartphones ship with Samsung Keyboard, which behaves similarly but has custom settings. Tap the !#1 button in the bottom-left corner to access numbers. Press and hold the dollar key to reveal the alternate currency tray and select €. You can also tap the 1/2 button above the bottom row to toggle to the second symbol page, where € is readily available. Furthermore, Samsung Keyboard lets you customize the symbols shown on the period key long-press menu under Settings → Layout → Custom symbols.

Adding a text shortcut in Gboard

If you regularly send quotes or invoices in European currency, you can configure an automatic text expansion in Gboard. Open Settings → System → Languages & input → On-screen keyboard → Gboard → Dictionary → Personal dictionary. Choose your language, tap the plus sign (+), paste € into the top box, and set the shortcut to eur. Whenever you type that trigger word in any messaging or banking app, € will appear in the center of the suggestion bar, ready for a single tap.
