What does ☂ mean?
☂ is a closed-top umbrella, and in forecasts it means rain or “bring an umbrella”. Unicode has three umbrella characters, and each has its own job: ☂ is the plain umbrella, ☔ adds falling raindrops and is the usual emoji for rainy weather, and ⛱ is a beach umbrella planted in the ground.
Outside weather, ☂ also appears on shipping labels, where an umbrella pictogram means “keep dry”. On packaging the official handling mark is a drawing rather than text, but ☂ is a reasonable stand-in in plain-text instructions. It turns into the emoji ☂️ with U+FE0F.
