What does ❄ mean?
❄ is a six-armed snowflake, the universal sign for snow, frost and freezing temperatures. It is common in winter forecasts, holiday greetings and product labels: a snowflake on a freezer compartment, a car dashboard or a tyre sidewall points to cold conditions. On tyres, the official winter marking is the three-peak mountain with a snowflake, which is a drawing rather than a Unicode character.
Unicode has several variants in the Dingbats block. ❅ has tighter arms and ❆ has chevrons on each arm, and both are popular for decorative borders. ❄ also has an emoji form ❄️ with U+FE0F, which shows as a blue snowflake on phones.
