What does ∠ mean?

∠ names an angle in geometry: ∠ABC is the angle at vertex B formed by the rays to A and C, so the middle letter is always the vertex. It is paired with the measure in degrees, as in ∠ABC = 90°. The variants ∡ (measured angle) and ∢ (spherical angle) are used in more formal texts. On phones the character shows reliably, but pair it with the vertex letters; a bare ∠ is ambiguous.

Common uses

  • Geometry: ∠ABC = 45°
  • Polar notation in electronics: 10∠30° V
