How to type the trademark symbol on a Mac
The trademark symbol on a Mac is Option + 2: hold Option, press the 2 key on the number row and ™ appears. It works in every app on the US and British layouts, and on MacBook keyboards without a keypad.
Quick answer
Press Option + 2 → ™
Step by step
Type the product or brand name
Place the cursor directly after it.
Hold Option
Keep it pressed.
Press 2
Use the 2 above the letters. ™ appears, already small and raised in most fonts.
Where the ™ goes
Put the mark right after the name, without a space: SymbolHub™. You do not need to repeat it every time the name appears; marking the first or most prominent use on a page is the usual convention. Unlike ®, the trademark sign can be used on any mark you claim, registered or not, which makes it the safe default for a new product.
What about ℠?
℠ is the service-mark version of ™, used mainly in the United States for services rather than goods. It has no Mac shortcut. Open the Character Viewer (Control + Command + Space) and search “service mark”, or copy it from the legal symbols collection.
If Option + 2 gives a different character
On some European layouts the 2 key’s Option layer holds another symbol. Open the Keyboard Viewer from the input menu, hold Option and look for ™, or switch to the US or British layout. In apps where Option + 2 is a menu shortcut, the Character Viewer or a copy from the trademark symbol page gets around it. A text replacement from “(tm)” to ™ in System Settings → Keyboard → Text Replacements also works system-wide.
Switching between Mac and Windows?
On a PC the same symbol is Alt + 0153, with Ctrl + Alt + T as a Word shortcut; see trademark symbol on Windows. In HTML on either system, ™ produces ™.
